

Super Donkey Kong 64 is a rom-hack made by Kaze Emanuar, which was released in April 2016. The hack is a re-creation of Donkey Kong 64 using the Super Mario 64 engine. It features eight levels from DK64, and several new power-ups. There is only one overworld, DK Isle, which is an island in the shape of a giant DK head.
Mario and Pauline are going on a visit to see Donkey Kong, but when they get to his house MIPS tells them that all the Kongs were abducted by a giant turtle monster (Bowser), and it’s up to Mario to rescue them.

This is also the hack that started it all, since the kaizo genre wasn't existent beforehand. The literal translation of "Kaizo Mario World" is "自作の改造マリオ(スーパーマリオワールド)を友人にプレイさせる", or in plain English, "Making my friend play through my Mario hack (Super Mario World)". Kaizo is a rough translation of the word "modify" or "change" in Japanese. However, due to this Hack, Kaizo has now become a catch-all term for extreme and possibly "unfair" difficulty hacks.
