In 1291, the last of the crusaders attempted a raid on the holy land and were soundly defeated by Arabian warriors. While their mission failed, they returned to Europe with seven treasures with biblical blessings. On their journey back to their native lands, they discovered that they possessed magical healing powers. Corrupted and demoralized, they began using them for selfish desires, and sought to be worshiped with the help of a devil incarnate, Ba'Mendes. Their attempt at this also was also repelled by courage of good people, and they were exiled to the mountains of Transylvania to be forgotten. Now, in 1693, Transylvania is once again infected by rampaging monsters under the command of a dark lord whose ambition is to enslave all of humanity. Simon, a proven hero, must once again deliver his homeland from the forces of evil.

This hack restores the crosses that appeared in the background of stage 1 and on the zombie’s coffin from the Japanese version, and it also changes the names of Asutaroto to Astaroth and Sardius back to being called Samael once again as well. It also removes most of the slowdowns, making the game much more enjoyable to play as well. It also makes it where you can access the hidden menu with the first controller by holding L and pressing Start as well. This hack also works with Lufia’s Super Arthur hack as well. The 0xED hex editor was used to change the name of the final boss.

Circle of the Moon was a great Castlevania game, but the card system left something to be desired. Cards being dropped solely from enemies was less than desirable, since it meant that the main gimmick of the game was locked behind a game of dice. This mod makes the cards more accessible by placing them in specific locations around the world. Enemies who did drop cards now instead drop meat, as a nod to the classic style Castlevanias. Cards are generally placed in an ascending order of power; you won’t get big bone powers by searching the early areas.
