Evergreen Avenue is a Visual Novel released on PlayStation in 2001. Choosing either a male (Catan) or female (Ira) character, you must help each of the seven spirits learn the ways of human life by scheduling sessions with them each week and playing mini-games to determine your effectiveness. Events will pop up from time to time, where you have personal conversations with the various spirits or with your rival. At the end of each month, you are graded in comparison with your rival, and you must sufficiently educate the spirits by the time six months have passed.

Following a brief prologue with adventure-like gameplay, the bulk of Hatsukoi Monogatari consists of managerial simulation along the lines of Princess Maker games, though with more limited options and no RPG elements. The player manages the hero's daily schedule, divided into two segments: school and home. Activities include studying, having conversations with students or teachers, taking part-time jobs, resting, talking on the phone, shopping, buying presents, etc. Each activity increases or decreases some of the hero's parameters. The overall level can be evaluated on a special screen, and the goal is to raise it by balancing the stats with various activities.

Hatsukoi Monogatari is a life sim/love adventure game and a remake of the 1993 PC game of the same title. While the story and gameplay are largely identical to the original version, this remake adds a new character — the angel Liliana — along with new events and endings. The artwork has also been completely redone in a different style, with new character designs by a different artist than the original release.

Additionally, it improves on the trading system, adding the "trading post" function, which allows the player to choose which product to make in some cities, which allows for more streamlined trading. Just like the prior games, the shape of the world is determined by the player's belief or disbelief in the reports brought in by their admirals, and ultimately influences what is found on the map, and the routes that are available.
