Parodius, also known as Parodius: The Octopus Saves the Earth, is the first title in the Parodius series. The name itself is a portmanteau of "Gradius" and "Parody" and, eponymously, the game is a parody of the Gradius series of space-based horizontally scrolling shooters. The gameplay is very similar to the Gradius games, with other aspects from games such as TwinBee. However, the characters are replaced with silly characters taken from either these or other Konami games, as well as Japanese culture. The player can play as either Tako (father of Takosuke), an octopus, the Penguin (father of Pentarou) from Antarctic Adventure and the exclusive MSX game Penguin Adventure, Goemon from the Ganbare Goemon series, the Popolon knight from the MSX game Knightmare or the Vic Viper spaceship from Gradius. The game is composed of six stages consisting of various obstacles and enemies such as penguins and bees, as well as more traditional Gradius enemies such as Moai. As with Gradius, the game utilizes a similar selection-bar based power-up system.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
Shoot'em ups don't come any weirder than Parodius - dodge through waves of killer penguins, neon rabbits and 50ft tall dancing girls. An intense experience of one or two players. This compilation collects the first two arcade incarnations of Konami's shoot'em'up parody series on one disc: Fantastic Journey (Gokujou Parodius) and Parodius (Parodius Da!). Unlike the ports seen on the SNES these are much more accurate to the original arcade version.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
This is a compilation of the main games in the Parodius series and was released only in Japan. It includes an enhanced remake of the original Parodius for the MSX, the expanded release of Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius for PlayStation, and arcade ports of Parodius Da!, Fantastic Journey, and Sexy Parodius.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
Released a year after Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius, this port for the Sega Saturn and PlayStation includes improved graphics and sound over the Super Famicom release. Additional features include a cheat to replace "Tokimeki People's Dance" with an enhanced version, "Days Of The Dream's Memories", several "Omake" stages, and unlockable characters Dracula-kun and Kid Dracula. The two-player game also allows both players to play simultaneously instead of just alternately like in the Super Famicom game.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
This is mostly a parody of Gradius, with some flavor from other shoot-em-ups, like Twinbee. The series is available on numerous platforms. The game is a right-to-left scrolling shoot-em-up. You can choose from 4 different flying creatures, with different weapons. You must finish 7 stages, each having a boss at the end. You may start at either one, but must complete every level to advance to the final stage. This version was also re-released in color as part of the Konami GB Collection Vol. 2.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
A shoot'em up arcade game and the second title in the Parodius series. Similar to the first game the player has a choice of characters to play as: Tako the Octopus (aka Mr. Parodius), Pentarou (son of the penguin from Antarctic Adventure), Twin Bee (main character of TwinBee) and the Vic Viper spaceship from Gradius. However in this game they each have unique weapons and upgrades. The game has ten stages and like the first game it features a mix of characters and enemies from different Konami series as well as absurd fantasy elements.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
A remake of the original MSX game that was included in the PSP compilation Parodius Portable. It recreates the MSX game but with added enhancements such as smooth scrolling as well as many configurable game options including a widescreen mode to fit the PSP screen.

Shooter / Arcade / Action / Fantasy
Konami's imaginative parody on the Gradius series. It plays just like Gradius, with the same power-up system, but features a far more bizarre and imaginative series of levels and characters. This game was released in Japan for the PC Engine and is a port of the Arcade original with a couple of differences: it doesn't have the arcade Stages 5 and 8, but features a stage titled SPECIAL and a new introduction that features several strange-looking Japanese characters. This is in contrast to the arcade intro, which chronicles the Gradius legacy up until the time of release.
