True Three Kingdoms, or 真·三國無雙 in Chinese, is an unlicensed game for the Game Boy Color developed by BBD and released by Sintax in 2002. It is loosely based on the Dynasty Warriors hack-and-slash series.
True Three Kingdoms is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up and is implied to be set in the Three Kingdoms period of China. When a new game is started, the player is presented with four dynasty generals to play as, who are represented with pre-release renders of the generals from Dynasty Warriors 3: Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong, and Zhang Fei (they are also shown in the game's intro with their pre-release renders). Each general has their own weapons and a set of attack moves they can perform, which are demonstrated after the general is selected. Before each stage, the game presents the option to save progress or continue to the stage.

Set around three main characters, The Red Star tells the tale of an alternate Russia, the URRS, where massive technology and futuristic weapons are wielded by its army, The Red Fleet. Your journey begins as Maya Antares, the sorceress-general for The Red Fleet, searches for her husband, Marcus, who was lost in battle. Each of the game's three characters offers different game experiences. During cooperative play, player characters can interact with each other and perform special attacks.

Altered Beast is a 1988 beat 'em up video game developed by Team Shinobi and published by Sega for arcades. Set in Ancient Greece, the game follows a Roman centurion who is resurrected by the Olympian god Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena from Neff, the demonic ruler of the underworld. By collecting three power-ups in a level, the player character can transform into one of five mythical beasts. In the original arcade, the end credits are interspersed with images of actors in costumes for the different characters and monsters of the game, implying the whole game was a film production.

At the end of First Samurai, the Demon King was able to flee back in time to ancient Japan, so our hero follows him back in time, and has 10 levels awaiting him. Unlike the original, each world is split into sub-levels, with a boss at the end of each one, emphasising the arcade side of the gameplay, which still combines hacking and slashing with puzzle-solving. As in the first game, you start without weaponry but can pick up swords and daggers as you progress through the levels. There are lots of hidden sections as you progress, which open up more of the end sequence to you, as well as several subgames including a shoot 'em up mode.
