Roommate: Inoue Ryōko is a love-simulation adventure game and the first title in the Roommate series. The player can freely move about the apartment, and the game mostly consists of voiced dialogue sequences where the player interacts with Ryōko and can respond to her via multiple-choice answers. Unlike many such games, the two weeks of the in-game story progress in real time using the Saturn's internal clock (or the PocketStation in the PlayStation version), and the time and frequency of the player's visits will affect the events that occur and the protagonist's relationship with Ryōko, leading to several different endings. In Roommate Ryoko you have three years to develop a relationship with her. Using a truly innovative real-time feature, the Saturn's internal clock affects how the game plays out. If you play during the day, she isn't around at times. Most of your "interfacing" with her occurs at night (welcome to the next level, indeed). Bad Three's Company allusions aside, there is a good bit of social interaction that goes on - you actually get to know her and have to reveal a lot about yourself. What is most impressive, though, is that the conversation is never recycled - there are thousands of things that Ryoko can say. Seasonal changes affect the game, and although it isn't played in real time, you must adjust your schedule in the game to hers to catch her (this is done by leaving her notes on your shared white board). Don't get antsy and set the Playstation clock ahead though; the Playstation reads that "skipped" time as time you didn't spend talking to Ryoko, and by the time you get to the "future," she'll have moved out. The graphics in Roommate look pretty good - forget polygons or texture mapping though; everything here is drawn two-dimensionally with special attention to detail. The sound is also pretty sharp because Ryoko actually speaks a lot of her dialogue (while it is correspondingly displayed onscreen). Unfortunately though, the gameplay almost entirely consists of listening to your new roommate and picking an appropriate thing to say (a lot like your freshman year of college really).

Policenauts is an interactive movie/graphic novel/adventure game with a hard science fiction storyline, written and directed by Hideo Kojima, and published by Konami. It was initially released for the PC-9821 computer platform in 1994, followed by remade versions for the 3DO in 1995, and the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996. The game has never been officially released outside Japan, despite plans for an English localization of the Saturn version. On August 24, 2009 (in honor of the 46th birthday of the game designer, Hideo Kojima), an unofficial English translation patch was released onto the internet. The game is set in a primarily first person perspective and uses a point-and-click interface: the player can move the cursor and have the protagonist (Jonathan Ingram) analyze objects around his environment or talk to other characters in the game. Like in Snatcher, the game features shooting segments where the player must defend their character from incoming enemies. The player can use the shooting trainer at the police department to test their reflex and accuracy. There are numerous puzzles in the game, including an event where the player must dismantle a bomb by following their partner's instructions. The console versions of the game all include support for their respective mouse peripherals. The Saturn version features light gun support for the shooting segments. The game was notable for being an early example of extensive voice recording in video games. It also featured a theme revolving around space exploration and occasional full-motion video cut scenes. The gameplay was largely similar to Snatcher, but with the addition of a point-and-click interface and some first-person shooter segments. Policenauts also introduced summary screens, which act to refresh the player's memory of the plot upon reloading a save, an element Kojima would later use in Metal Gear Solid. The PlayStation version of Policenauts could also read the memory card and give some easter egg dialogues if a save file of Konami's dating sim Tokimeki Memorial is present, a technique Kojima would also later use in Metal Gear Solid.

Kaze no Oka Kouen Nite is a first person adventure game in which the player takes the role of a young student that arrives at a town and begins the class in fall in a new high school when he will find 4 girls, that one of them can be the love of his live. The gameplay is about choosing at some times of the game between different answers that will lead that girl story in a way or another. The game let the player choose which girl story he wants to play (there are 4 possible ones, one for each main girl character) and the events and situations will be different in each girl story, but all the girls will appear in the other stories.

Himitsu Sentai Metamor V is a visual novel-style adventure game starring a cast of transforming magical girls. The game is divided into chapters and follows the five members of the Metamor V squad, all of them elementary school students and classmates of Sakie's. Much of the game consists of conversation sequences with other characters; the player's reactions and choices will affect Sakie's trust level with her squadmates, and through conversations the player will also learn different key words. Both of these are important during the battle sequences, in which the player must combine words in order to create the most effective special attacks. There is no lose condition, but the player is graded on how quickly they defeat opponents, which affects trust levels and ultimately the game's ending. The later PlayStation "Deluxe" version includes an extra bonus side scenario and additional voice acting, but is otherwise the same game.
